Guest Potter: Yvette Lepley
This year,
Yvette will be a guest potter at Smicksburg Pottery tour.
Artist
Statement:
"I
began working in ceramics as a stress outlet. It continues to be a
release today. For me, clay is living and breathing. My work is a
collaboration of my imagination and the clay’s response during
the creation process. It’s an interaction which allows my vision
to evolve. I primarily make face jugs, a southern born tradition.
They satisfy my love of throwing and hand building. I create a variety
of realistic and caricature personas using a very loose working regime.
It amazes me that the slightest change to a feature transforms the
entire meaning. I see each jug as a challenge and a meditation. I
work in silence, thinking with images and feelings rather than words.
At completion, I smile at my new friend and hope that it can bring
pleasure to someone else as well."
Biography:
Yvette has a home based
business. She pots in her basement and carries pots 125 feet, across
the lawn, to the shop where her kiln is housed. She sells predominately
on the internet, but hopes to have a modest room set up for sales
before Christmas. Yvette’s clay time is limited. She is a stay
at home mom to two boys with autism. All her work is stamped with
a puzzle piece, the symbol of autism awareness. You can visit her
web site: groundhogpottery.net.
