East Creek Studio sits next to Ruth and Paul Ferrier's custom log home. Her wheel sits in front of the window that overlooks her wonderful flower gardens. Ruth will be the first to admit that she has just begun her learning path in pottery. In keeping with the theme of learning and beginning potters, Ruth has invited other student potters in the area to display their work in her studio for the tour.

Bio:

Ceramic garden flowers

Ruth obtained her bachelors degree from Slippery Rock University and has studied art in various forms on and off all her life. She uses art as her creative outlet. The flower gardens that she sees while sitting at her potter's wheel are a wonderful example of her artistic talent and dedication. The gardens are also where she receives the inspiration for the designs that are now being incorporated into her pottery pieces

She began throwing by taking classes at Windblown Studio and and continues to study with Rita.

Her work is an example of her learning, her artistic touch, and a dedication to growth.

Artist Statement:

garden ceramic butterfly

"It is wonderful to be able to use one's hands to assist the plants in growth and then use those same hands to form thrown and handbuilt pottery pieces. I use flowers, plants, insects, and animals as a stimulus when formulating the designs I choose for my garden pieces. I design larger than life flower, butterflies, birds, and some containers for the gardens.

My functional pieces may have a leaf, flowers or butterfly impressed or painted on with glazes."
